GLIDE pocket synthesizer

Don't take our word for it

Go on, press anything.

This is GLIDE's keyboard, in your browser. Every key fits. Hold one and tap another on the same row and the note slides. Tap a chord on the bottom row, then play over it.

A MINOR PENT ·clashes 0

Press any key. Then try Start a beat.

Keyboard works too: 1 to 0, q to p, a to ; are the strings, z to / is the jam row. Same letters as the real thing.

A sketch of GLIDE running in your browser, so you can feel it. Flip scale lock off to hear what a regular keyboard is like. The instrument has ten sounds, sixteen characters to roll new ones from, a looper, tilt control, a built-in speaker and a headphone jack.

Why it's easy

Most keyboards hand you the wrong notes too. GLIDE leaves them out.

Every song sits in a key, and a key uses 7 of the 12 notes. On a piano, the other 5 are right there under your fingers, waiting to sound wrong. That's most of what makes learning hard.

A regular keyboard 7 of 12 notes fit

A song in F♯ minor. Every key marked ✕ clashes with it, and nothing tells you which ones they are.

GLIDE, scale lock on 10 of 10 keys fit

Scale lock maps every key to a note in the key. Press anything, hold it, slide it. It fits.

Want every note? Hold shift and GLIDE plays all twelve, only while you hold it. The safe version is where you start, not a limit.

The whole learning curve.

Five things to try. That's it. There's no manual to read first.

  1. any key

Press keys. Scale lock means nothing sounds wrong.

  2. hold + tap

Hold a key, tap another on the same row. The note glides over like a finger sliding up a string.

  3. bottom row

Tap a few keys on the low row. They become chords that loop under your playing. You're now a duo.

  4. lean

Hold a note and tilt the device toward you. The sound melts into the last one you played.

  5. tab

Roll a brand-new sound with one tap. Undo if you miss, save it if it hits.

Player reports

Easy, say the people who play it.

I've been playing music for 15 odd years and soloing never once came naturally to me. I can play this thing with my eyes closed and I swear to you it still sounds good. An absolute game changer for approaching music for me.

Extremely easy to play. One of the best tools I have in my stack. Any moment I need something to fidget with, I'm picking up the synth.

Loved synths all my life, and as technology progresses I always see amazing things pop up. One of those things is GLIDE. It lets you jam hassle-free and enjoy music on the go, just like if you had a harmonica in your pocket.

Then it grows with you

Easy on day one. Still new on day three hundred.

Week one

Play with yourself

Tap a chord progression on the bottom row with no timing needed, loop it with one button, and play a solo over the top.

Any day

Play along with the radio

Hold one key and GLIDE listens to whatever's playing, finds its key and tunes itself to match. Then just join in.

When you're ready

Earn the in-between notes

Hold shift for every note, like a piano. Switch to Advanced and the whole sound engine opens up, knob by knob. None of it required, all of it waiting.

FAQ

What beginners ask.

I have zero musical experience. Really?

Really. Scale lock keeps every key in the key, so there's nothing wrong to hit. Most people are making something that sounds like music within the first minute, and a short tour on first switch-on shows the rest.

Isn't it just a toy, then?

It starts simple. It doesn't stay simple. Under the easy surface there's a looper, a chord row and tilt control. One switch in Settings opens Advanced: every key a whole chord, two LFOs, two envelopes, four filter modes and a live effects rack. Musicians use it too.

Does it need an app, a phone or an account?

No. The microphone, speaker and battery are all built in. No app, no account, no WiFi, no subscription. Charge it over USB-C and play.

Will I get bored of it?

It keeps changing. One tap rolls a brand-new sound from sixteen characters, and two of your sounds are unique to your unit. Firmware updates are free forever and keep adding things.

Who actually makes these?

One person. Every GLIDE is programmed, flashed, played and boxed by hand by its maker, Charles, in small numbered batches. He wrote the firmware too, and he answers questions himself on Discord.
